Bold-faced lier. Too much power for one person. Ability to ruin, and possibly take, lives with his " reports" . Omnipotent. Inflexable. Needs to sample his own medicine, then see if it makes any sense.

LAZY - refuses to fill out WCB forms!! after 15 years - have to find another doctor to treat a broken leg post-op. 12 screws, one plate. I can´ t believe it.

I do believe Dr.Hedges is a skilled in his area of addictions. He is not a " bad person" . He does have too much power, and is involved with a large group of professional people, who´ s leaders take the good Dr´ s word without question. This leads to some puzzling and questionable recommendations by Dr.Hedges, with little or no recourse from the client. My other complaint is that you cannot take Dr.Hedges at his word. ANYTHING YOU say may be printed up as quotations in his " recommendations" in a bad light. Furthermore, don´ t believe him for a second if he says he is going to do one course of action for you, because when the papers actually arrive, you will find they say something very different than what you agreed upon. The Doctors main mode of operation is; " if it didn´ t work the first time, add more time, and add more restrictions" . The overall effect is a punative one, and not an action that encourages growth in the career. Perhaps this is the Doctors objective; slowly kill and strangle any life out of the clients career. I can appreciate that at the end of the day, this is about public safety, however, maybe it would be better to discuss ending the clients career right then and there in his office, and perhaps look at/suggest alternatives, rather than slowly suffocate the spirit out of the client.
Dr. Hedges could improve his practice in two ways. The first involves taking a little more time with the first time client in his care. Let the client know that her or his career IS NOT OVER no matter (almost!) how bad the circumstances are right now. This would go a long way into reassuring the client that he can trust the Doctor, so that she can get the help she needs (like DETOX!) BEFORE she goes into treatment, not once she arrives at treatment because she was too frightned that her career would be over if she divulged the true condition of her at the time. Really emphasis this point. Be clear. Try (real hard) to gain the clients trust. Then they might trust you, and the whole process will go a lot easier, especially for the client. The second way the Doctor could improve his practice is to make recommendations that the client is actually able to comply to. Such as, will the client be able to afford this treatment? Is is covered by anyone, anything? I feel Dr.Hedges is misguided, and possibly believes that there is a team waiting to point the client in the right direction, show her the forms to fill in. My experiance has been one of self-discovery, as I had to do most of the legwork myself...guessing at things more often than not, and marvelling at how long the whole process takes....
